(Spring Branch, TX) — Another early season meeting between the volleyball programs of Smithson Valley and Alamo Heights, another sweep for the Rangers.
Smithson Valley, which swept Alamo Heights in the second match of the season last year (one of just 10 regular season losses for the Mules), swept Alamo Heights in last night’s season opener from Ranger Gym by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-22.
The Rangers (1-0) made quick work of the Mules (0-1) thanks in large part to a stellar performance from senior Maja Kaiser. Kaiser, who led Smithson Valley in kills and digs last season, picked up where she left off, posting a team high 15 kills in last night’s sweep, adding eight digs (tied for second on the team), two blocks (tied for the team lead) and a service ace. Fellow senior Ashley Naivar had 12 assists and eight digs of her own while junior Lauren Kalidis led the Rangers with 17 assists. Senior libero Macy Berg had a team leading 10 digs in the season opening sweep.
Smithson Valley next plays at the Round Rock Westwood Tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Rangers next match at Ranger Gym will take place as part of the Smithson Valley tournament scheduled for August 25th – 27th.
